@Anibyl I think the Wikipedia article can help. This one too:
@evan I don't think that major events in other countries that that contributed to immigration are important parts of Canadian history. Like Russian Revolution isn't. It's important to understand the causes on the global scale, but it's not really a part of what happened here.
@Anibyl So, Canadian history is everything that happened inside the current borders of Canada?
@evan Mainly? Otherwise, what's the point of it being Canadian?
If you take a course on quantum mechanics, classical mechanics won't be an important part of it — but it'd be referenced and compared to.
You can't just pile everything together — sometimes it's important to focus.
as a historian I disagree heh.
I don't have a strong opinion about the Italy thing, but ..
look up the New Imperial History school of thought which discusses how economic and population forces work at great distances affecting and defining local history in ways which were previously ignored. it's a whole thing.
@virtuous_sloth @Anibyl ha, fair!
Let me ask a similar question to an Elrick, then, which is: Are the Highland Clearances an important part of Canadian history?
@virtuous_sloth @Anibyl Answer mine first!
@virtuous_sloth @Anibyl I promised you neither legitimacy nor utility!
