I searched for "cana" and got zero hits and refuse to put more effort into finding a Canadian connection.

@evan I don't think that major events in other countries that that contributed to immigration are important parts of Canadian history. Like Russian Revolution isn't. It's important to understand the causes on the global scale, but it's not really a part of what happened here.

If you take a course on quantum mechanics, classical mechanics won't be an important part of it — but it'd be referenced and compared to.

You can't just pile everything together — sometimes it's important to focus.

I don't have a strong opinion about the Italy thing, but ..
look up the New Imperial History school of thought which discusses how economic and population forces work at great distances affecting and defining local history in ways which were previously ignored. it's a whole thing.

@carkner @Anibyl I think there are very few Canadian historians who would say that the Battle of Vimy Ridge wasn't an important part of Canadian history even though it happened off Canadian soil.

@evan @carkner Because it was? I never said the soil was the only defining factor, but you have to draw the line somewhere if you're trying to divide the global history into national parts.

Let me ask you a different question. If there is one person from each country who lives in each other country (less than 200^2 = 40,000 people), then does using a country as an adjective modifying the word history have any meaning anymore?
