I tried #vibeCoding my election visualizations. #ClaudeCode did well, but considering that my #generativeAI assistant didn't have eyes or fingers, I had to give it a lot of guidance to make something readable and usable.

@JasonW I didn't realize you were on the fediverse. (I saw this because of the #dataviz tag.) For me, AI coding has been both remarkable and underwhelming at the same time. Fun to see you try it on some of your data visualizations. From what I've seen, that's one of the areas where Claude Code does well.
@jdarais Good to hear from you again! I was really impressed by how well it could do data prep on election data. It anticipated my wanting just the color gradients I’ve used for years, too. Almost makes up for the off-screen UI elements it kept drawing. Hope you’re well.
@JasonW thanks, likewise! I also tried some dataviz with claude, and it was interesting to see that after prodding it to come up with a better color palette a couple of times, it landed on the Tableau 20 palette.
@jdarais I’m not surprised! I’ve used matplotlib and I smiled when I saw it included colormaps called “tab10” and “tab20”. They didn’t coopt any of the Tableau palettes named after my coworkers, though.
@JasonW Typo. Its https://elections.weill.org :-)
