@benroyce Trump has made the US untrustworthy. He is like a giant wrecking ball. So many countries are in the process of building non-US trading and political relationships to enhance their resilience. Trump forgets that just 4% of the world's population lives in the US. The other 96% can survive and thrive without the US. He is overseeing "the suicide of a superpower".
@Iveyline @benroyce I couldn't agree more, but shame on us for even letting him run again after leading an insurrection on January 6th, 2021. Because a second term for our 45th President would have done a lot less damage to our reputation in the world then the same idiot being the 47th. I don't know... maybe we'd be better off now if his insurrection had worked. (For the record, I doubt it goes that far because then we'd likely be in our 10th year of King Trump.)
No, the insurrection working would have been a blatant end to democracy. What should have happened is that after the insurrection, he should have been prosecuted and sentenced to prison, blocked from running by the 14th amendment. None of that happened. The fact that he could run again and was never punished, that's what really cemented the US's fate.
what do you mean "no?" You are restating nearly everything I said. I guess I was trying to be too clever with my words.
"Shame on us for even letting him run again after leading an insurrection" = "What should have happened is that after the insurrection, he should have been prosecuted and sentenced to prison, blocked from running by the 14th amendment"
"10th year of King Trump" = "blatant end to our democracy"
"Maybe" = hypothetical
"Maybe" followed by hyperbole = rhetorical hypothetical
"I doubt it" = no, really, that was a rhetorical hypothetical
Yeah, we agree on those points. The part I disagree with was
maybe we'd be better off now if his insurrection had worked
We wouldn't. It's good that that was stopped, but the US failed to learn from it.
I mean, WW2 has also lead to some good things: a strong rejection of racism and an attempt at an international rule based order through the UN, instead of "might makes right". But more than 6 million people would have strongly disagreed that it's worth the cost.
We need to learn from our mistakes before they get out of hand. We need to recognise them before we make them. We need the finally learn from history.
