Meta (Facebook) -- Threads is now displaying ads in all markets.
If you're not yet seeing ads on threads, it is because the system is rolling it out. But it is enabled for everyone.

I hide/block a lot of ads on my FB feed. I wonder if anyone really looks at the reason I give.
I blocked a mens soap company and the reason I checked was "knows too much."
Today I've seen two different fedizens complaining about paywalls going up and blaming it on enshittification. Well, maybe.
The better we get at blocking ads, the more online publishers will need to put up paywalls. One way or another, stuff has to be paid for.
I'm blocking ads with trackers, which turns out to be most ads. Every time I have a chance to respond to one of those "We noticed you're blocking ads" messages, I say, no, I'm blocking tracking. Turn off your tracking and I'll see your ads.
So far, I have had 0 takers on my offer.

I'd love to see more #HigherEducation Institutions #HEI providing their staff (researchers and teachers) as well as their students the option to use free and open social media platforms. There is no #ads, no #tracking. #Mastodon isn't the only choice; there are many other federated services!
