You may have been aware of the green hydrogen & ammonia production facility, INNA, proposed for construction on the Chilean coast, very close to Paranal & Armazones, home to ESO's VLT, VLTI, VISTA, & ELT telescopes.
It posed an existential light & atmospheric pollution threat to those world-leading astronomical facilities.
Fortunately, the concerns of the scientific community have been heard & the project cancelled.

New instance, new #introduction !
Hi #fediverse ! We’re the European Southern Observatory, and we design, build and operate ground-based telescopes.
One of them is our Extremely Large Telescope, currently under construction in #Chile. It will have a 39 m mirror, and its rotating enclosure will weigh 6100 tonnes, or about 700 mastodons!
We’re looking forward to chatting with all of you about #astronomy

The main object depicted here is known as Ve 7–27. It was long believed to be a planetary nebula — namely, the end phase of a sun-like star’s life. Yet ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) has shown it to actually be a still-forming baby star.
But there's also a dead star lurking just nearby, so keep reading!
