Can someone point me to a guide to record sound on linux desktop? (Like speach, nothing fancy.) I can get appearently decent results using kdenlive, but is is better to use some more audiofocused tool like Audacity, or something else?
As far as audacity, I can make it appear to record, but I can't get a decent playback - likely because I have no clue how to use it.

There are several open sampler formats. By open, I don't mean open source, but rather, that that the specs are open so that users can create tools to work with the formats. For example, Jürgen Moßgraber's priceless open source tool: ConvertWithMoss

Any #vintageAudio nerds in the federation?
I've recently bought an old "Beocord 2000 Deluxe" (what a name, huh?) reel-to-reel taperecorder in the hope It'll be able to play the tape we found in my in-law's attic. The machine the tape was found in was very broken, but the tape looks OK.
I don't know almost anything about reel-to-reel machines, though, so any pointers to do's and/or DONT's are much appreciated.
Or maybe just to some resources on the topic?

🧵 In the late 1980s our small game dev team developed 2 Amiga music editors: SIDmon and Digital Mugician, both featuring synth sounds and sampled sounds.
Mugician was published by the British Thalamus game publisher in 1990, and was used for several Amiga games, including our own.
This is our composer Ramon Braumuller's 4-channel Mugician intro.

Hey, people who produce music electronically, how do you choose your sounds when you first start composing?
Do you have a "safe" library of presets/samples you use before moving on to more eccentric ones? Do you have the sounds you'd like to use in mind before you begin arranging, or do you arrange with one instrument and then change sounds for each voice later?
I've been having trouble getting music down in a way that feels expressive to me and I struggle with sound selection the most. Any advice is appreciated!
