This plump, sturdy bird has rufous-brown upperparts and greyer underparts, with indistinct barring on wings and tail. It is known for its ceaselessly active foraging behaviour and quick, jerky movements.

We had some time on beautiful Stewart Island, Rakiura, earlier this week. The Oban harbour at Halfmoon Bay hosts a number of seabirds, including albatrosses, muttonbirds (Shearwaters), and terns.

I managed to get some shots of this albatross (White-capped, I think) as it ran along the water as part of its take-off.

Heute endlich mal das Vogelhäuschen gesäubert (vergangenes Jahr hatten Feldwespen darin ein Nest gebaut) und an einen anderen, mittlerweile den dritten Standort an der Hauswand gehängt, hoffentlich dieses Mal mit Erfolg. Eine Stunde später sah sich in der Dämmerung immerhin schon eine Kohlmeise darin um. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Found this live stream recently of a chaco eagle/crowned solitary eagle nest in Argentina. There's one chick in the nest that's looking close to fledging soon. Apparently this is a very endangered species, with little known about them, so it's very cool to be able to watch them, and for researchers to learn more about them. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kAXh-FoO4Bo

Zwei Blauastrilde (Uraeginthus angolensis) stehen sich auf einer Mauer gegenüber. Der linke Vogel ist im Profil zu sehen und streckt seinen Kopf in Richtung des anderen. Der steht entspannt mit dem Rücken zum Betrachter und schaut in Richtung seines Gegenübers.
Blauastrilde erreichen eine Körperlänge von 12 Zentimetern. Männchen und Weibchen weisen dieselbe Gefiederfärbung auf, allerdings sind die Weibchen matter blau als die Männchen. Der Kopf und die Oberseite sind blaßbraun, der Bürzel und der Schwanz ist leuchtend blau. Ebenso sind die Wangen, die Zügel und ein breiter Streif über dem Auge blau. Auch Hals, Brust und Körperseiten weisen diese Farbe auf, wobei das Blau zum Rücken hin stark aufhellt.
