I love the Fediverse and really enjoy the Mastodon platform, but (and this surprises me) the gaming community over on Bluesky is really big & engaging! Like, not gamergate types, like good folks!!!
How do we get some folks off Bluesky???

Improvements include better heuristics for fediverse user counts and real monthly active user stats for #bluesky/#atproto . I'm also making more raw data available, both for the most recent counts and historical data at https://arewedecentralizedyet.online/data/
Overall, doesn't change the conclusions much, but I'm very happy with these new datasources.

Crítica interessant sobre #Bluesky i la seva suposada #descentralització 🧐. Nora explica com un petit error de configuració va "cremar" el seu domini per sempre, deixant-la fora de la xarxa #ATProto.
Sembla que ser realment independent en aquesta plataforma encara és massa complicat i depèn massa de servidors centrals. La sobirania digital no hauria de ser tan fràgil! 🧱🚫
I've used #BlueSky for about a day or two more than a year ago, and defended feminist views / criticized people slandering JK Rowling. Today, got this email.
It can't be stressed enough just how much of a clown show the whole platform is. Apparently, they consider the expression of feminist opinions to be terrorism and criminal.
I think it's probably based on the fact that I said the nazis did not specifically persecute "trans people" in the way they persecuted gay people or Jews. According to trans activists, that's "Holocaust revisionism," which they accuse JK Rowling of. And from there, I'm guessing, they tell themselves that my posts could be considered to be disseminating content for neo-nazi groups, hence this moderation decision. It's mental gymnastics at Olympic level.
They are living in an alternate reality, and the reason they're perpetually mad is that actual reality won't bend to their will. It's sad.

Another day, another social platform embracing the #Atmosphere (it is currently in Beta).
It is called Gander Social, & it is hosted in #Canada 🇨🇦: https://gandersocial.ca/
Unlike #WSocial, Gander Social will use the standard Atmosphere protocol, which means they will be able to easily interact with #Bluesky users. They plan on launching sometime this year.
I am curious as to why they chose Atmosphere over the #Fediverse.

Me parece muy bien que Europa se esté poniendo las pilas buscando alternativas a las redes sociales estadounidenses. #WSocial es buena iniciativa anti X (Guatepeor), pero creo que llega tardísimo con Threads (Guatemala) habiéndole comido la tostada ya en todo el mundo, y #Bluesky como eterna promesa.
De hecho, los rumores de que W pudiera funcionar con el protocolo abierto de Bluesky es lo único que me da algo de esperanza, aunque me temo que lo más seguro es que acabe fracasando o como #Mastodon, siendo una gran idea que pero con poco público.
Veremos cuando muestren más que el nombre.
