It’s going to be all globe related posts for the next few days. I visited the Globe Museum of the Austrian National Library. They have over 250 globes on display, the oldest dating back to 1536. The first two here were made by Vincenzo Coronelli, whose artistic style helped to make globes decorative symbols of wealth. #globes #maps #cartography

I'm going to post a few hi-res scans of my map of the “Provinces d'West; autrefois Royaume d'Westsex: ou sont Aujordhuy les Comtés Hant-shire, et l'Isle de Wight, Barck-shire, Wilt-shire, Dorcet-shire, Somerset-shire, Devon-shire, et Cornwall, &c.” by the father of French cartography and geographer ordinaire to King Louis XIV, Nicolas Sanson. The map is a 1679 edition of one from 1654 and was printed on handmade rag paper which has a large contemporary watermark. 1/19 #Cartography #NicolasSanson

I’m a freelance software dev (mainly working for the french ministry of #ecology), but my 2nd (and favorite) hat is #cartography and #data analysis (mainly with https://democratiserlapolitique.org 🥰 right now).
My fav project I’ve worked on was “100 jours de zbeul”, a web leaderboard for the 2023 french manifestations that was really irritating to right wingers ✊.

for my 1st year Bachelor class I'm looking for examples of thematic maps, in this case:
*point symbol maps, with qualitative ordinal data*,
like the legend below illustrates (but there's no map).
Would you have interesting examples?
[I know that in fact, general topographic maps have these kinds of ordinal data, but I'm looking more for thematic maps that focus on one or a couple of these ordinal phenomena, rather than the broad-purpose topographic maps]
