I see a lot of fancy modern locomotives featured on Mastodon's train track Tuesday, but none are finer than EMD's F7. This one operatates at the Illinois Railway Museum. The fact that this particular locomotive went into service the year and month I was born has nothing to do with it

GM Electro Motive Division F7 diesel electric locomotive originally built for the Chicago and North Western Railroad. Later sold to Metra and painted light blue. Donated by Metra to the Illinois Railway Museum where was restored to original operating condition and CNW paint scheme yellow with green trim locomotive pulling double decked commuter passenger cars.

There's been a lot of fog and smog since we moved into our new office space, but this morning the water looked great and I love having a view of the Alder Planetarium on its little peninsula.

Late day shadows and light adorn the Wrigley Building and the Tribune Tower across the street in this beautiful B&W photo.

The clock on the Wrigley Building shows the time nearing 5 o’clock as late day shadows adorn the Tribune Tower across the steet while the clock tower is bathed in light. The ornate Wrigley Building with it’s Beaux-Arts Architectural style was built in the 1920’s. The clock tower has thousands of terra-cotta tiles in six different shades of white and cream that catch and reflect the sunlight. Across the street is the stunning Gothic Revival architecture of the Tribune Tower finished in 1922 with its distinctively ornate crown capping the top floors of what was originally the radio broadcasting studio. While the studio is gone this architectural masterwork remains a signature element in Chicago’s skyline.
