At this point in the exercise, I can confirm it concerns #ChildrensLiterature, #Fantasy, #SpeculativeFiction, #PerceptionofTime, #Communication, and #Etymology.
It will likely be a mix of #Prose and #ExperimentalPoetry. With some luck, well, actually a lot of luck, it may make sense, and might even reach a conclusion. Beyond those pieces of information, all is uncertainty.
BTW, Did I mention, #Dadaism and #Existential #Absurdism? Probably some of that's going to enter into the equation. #Writing #Narrative

I’ve been here a while, but I’m just now posting an #Introduction. Why? I’ve been a bit shy to, and as an observer by nature, I wanted to understand what this space can offer and what I can offer in return.
I believe in kindness, curiosity, and the types of communication that can arise when people hold those two values close.
I’m looking to connect with people who want to have these types of conversations and prefer going below the surface, sharing personal experience, and practicing empathy.
I also appreciate those discussions, ideas, and facts in my feed that scratch my intellectual itch as well as the beautiful moments that people share. I moderately boost.
I’m interested in topics such as better communication, belonging and connection, art history, sociology, culture, and the preservation of our collective and individual humanity.
I have many causes that I care deeply about, such as women’s issues and intersectional feminism, human rights, and information about covid/public health, and media literacy. Books and Eastern Europe are also high on my list.
While I believe in staying aware, I rarely post about straight politics.

Feb. 16, 1978 -- forty eight years ago today -- the first public dial-up bulletin board system or BBS went online.

I got my first modem in the summer of 1986, a Prometheus ProModem 1200A (modem on a card) for the Apple II. The first BBS I logged in to was OxGate, an RBBS/RCPM system the phone number of which I still can remember (my earliest BBS software -- firmware-based on that modem card -- had no phone book). I used BBSs avidly until sometime in 1994, when I subscribed to a local ISP's (Widomaker of Williamsburg, VA) dial-up modem-based PPP service that brought TCP/IP to my 486 PC with Windows 3.1. I could then browse the web from home, and that was basically the end of BBSing for me -- for the moment, anyway.
For those interested in experiencing this early form of online community, there are many BBSs online right now, accessible via telnet on systems old and new. I've enjoyed getting back into BBSing this way, especially when using vintage systems to login.

I'm going to launch a new Free Culture project soonish and I am curious about where to have real time chat for it.
Looking at my options, none of them make me thrilled.
- Matrix
Matrix is nice, but I've had so many problems with it, it's clunky UI, it's clients not working right, encryption being funky, losing credentials, losing state. Running my own server turned out to be near impossible.
- Discord
Discord is the easiest to use, but it's entirely non-Free. And recently there's the age verification scandal. On the other hand, there's a huge community, it's very normalized, extremely easy to use.
- Libera Chat (IRC)
IRC seems like a good place to do this, but one of the folks on Babka has told me he's been kicked out of Libera for being a "genocider" because he speaks Hebrew and they banned "Zionist channels"
I'm at a bit off a loss. Anyone have thoughts?
