#Microslop sneaked a "C/C++ DevTools" extension into their C/C++ Extension Pack meta-extension for #vscode. It sounds innocuous, but apparently its entire purpose is to connect your projects to #GitHub #Copilot.
I've tried a few other IDEs over the years, but nothing is as good at understanding C/C++ codebases while also having first-class CMake support.
I could try #JetBrains CLion now that it's free for noncommercial use, but they boast about AI right on the main CLion webpage as well.

I have a simple script that adds and updates dates in a blog post by #prek (#precommit) before #git commit.
It works well in #linux, but does not work as expected on #macos. In Mac it sets initial time, but does not update it.
I thought it’s very simple bug, very good to delegate to #AI coding tool, my #aiagent was #github #copilot.
Copilot generated me #Nodejs code inside bash to fix the issue, but it did not. It rewrote almost completely my #bash script to #nodejs, but it did not work as well.
When I gave up and checked by myself, it required to add “-u” option to “date” cli for macOS.
There was an another task that involved another git command’s parameters and “AI” decided to add 20 lines of code with no positive result.
How do people build a #startup and fully functional apps with it?
I use it for function generations, tests, structs… but when it goes to something more complicated it never works with “good enough” quality for me.

Setting aside the typical botched execution by a large dysfunctional tech corp trying to hop on the AI bandwagon, one of the fundamental reasons why agent integration into an Office suite will always be a shitshow, is that Office formats (doc, xls…) are the *polar* opposites of what works well with LLMs…
GenAI risk management: limit #GitHub exposure and switch to #sourcehut where @drewdevault has committed to protecting developers. #Microsoft allegedly trained GitHub #Copilot on #copyleft material code, when we all know #RAG #LLMs cannot cite like humans. Potentially massive IP violation. My PhD is #ccbysa and if the RAG LLMs can't abide by the terms, then the people who are using them are in violation. And yes, I will enforce terms. There's pending case law for this. Lots and lots of it!

I think the reason the Claude models in Copilot seem dumb isn't just because they have a smaller context size, there's probably something else going on too. I swear on it, but I can't prove it.
In Windsurf, the exact same model performs much better even before reaching that context limit.

Los directivos dicen que la IA no va a reemplazar a nadie y que así vamos a currar más rápido porque “nos centraremos en lo que realmente necesitamos hacer”. Sea lo que sea eso.
Al final lo que se está consiguiendo es que la calidad del código caiga en picado, que nadie sepa cómo funciona nada ( deuda cognitiva ) y nosotros estamos detrás para dar martillazos a todo el tinglado. Y mientras tanto las empresas que dan el servicio de #LLM se están forrando porque no es nada barato.
Eso no es una exageración ni un futuro. Esto es hoy mismo y en mi empresa hemos empezado tarde con la adopción de estas máquinas tragaperras de palabras. No me quiero ni imaginar cómo estará en otros sitios 🙈
