How do you turn millions of data points into a single, iconic graphic? 📈
We’re bringing NY Times Graphics Editor Christine Zhang to the #positconf 2026 keynote stage! 🎤
Come learn how she bridges the gap between complex analysis and public understanding. Can’t join us in Houston? We’ll be livestreaming the keynotes so you don’t miss a beat.

It's great to log-on to #Mastodon to find not only my work being discussed and put out there with enlightening comments (thanks @AntoninDanalet ), but also that quote reposts are now a thing, when did that happen?! In any case check it out when you get a chance and join the conversation of openness (including open publications, code, data and accessible communities) in research! #OpenSource #dataScience for #reproducibleresearch in the public interest 🚀
Since I moved to my own server, time for an updated #introduction. #pinned
I'm Michael. I'm a 30 something #WebDeveloper / #IT focusing on #WordPress #PHP #JS #JQuery, some #bash #mysql #datascience.
I enjoy #photography ( @alpha ) with my #SonyAlpha, mostly #landscape and #astrophotography and #drones.
I'm big into #OpenSource, #SelfHosted #3dprinting and taking back #privacy from #BigTech.
I #blog occasionly @ https://alpha1beta.blog/
I tweet a lot about #USPOL and use a lot of profanity.
Recording of my talk on {collapse} and the {fastverse} at the Bank of Portugal‘s workshop on „Speeding up Empirical Research: Tools and Techniques for Fast Computing“ in December is now online: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO5dHIPsfK8
In it, following an introduction, I walk through two in-depth examples of (1) facilitating and speeding up complex research in international trade and (2) developing a graph manipulation and traffic assignment library – recently released as {flownet}.
Good data science is rarely glamorous. It's rigorous problem-solving, delivered on time, with results that hold up in production.
We've worked with WHO/Europe, Public Health Scotland, and Hertfordshire County Council — from automating vaccine monitoring to open-source migration to scalable analytics infrastructure.

The next #PyData #Helsinki #meetup is on 19 March 2026 at Elisa, Ratavartijankatu 5.
On the menu: optimisation problems in electricity markets, a deep dive into #DeltaLake read performance without a cluster, two lightning talks, and an intro to Data & AI at our sponsor Elisa.
And of course our already traditional quiz, where the main challenge is understanding how answers are scored.

📊 Dashboards in Databricks - Metric Views for Consistent Business KPIs
We've just published a new blog post about native BI and dashboarding capabilities in Databricks.
Databricks is only for coders? This no longer holds true. And Metric Views allow for consistent business logic defined across the entire analytics ecosystem.
