I'm disturbed to discover that apparently one of the most wholesome channels on YouTube has, by some means or other, essentially lost control of their brand and are being forced to release a game that is full-on, maximum #enshitification: We're talking microtransactions, lootboxes, *real-money gambling* -- no avenue is left unexploited. I won't name who because this is only second-hand knowledge, but it goes to show that the vultures have worked out that you don't need to be dead for them to start feasting on you.

Big tech companies have a track record of enshitification of products that used to be good, but as they need to make more money the products get worse.
Don't think that AI is going to be any different. After a few players have killed competition, prices will go up and the products will get worse.

I think I got in to computers at a special time in the history of the things. First was PCs with games brought home from the local computer store. 12MB of ram was hot shit. Modems were opening a wide world of other computers via the BBS. Having a neighbor with university unix credentials to connect to the internet with lynx and then tcptrumpet / winsock.
Never again will computers be as awesome as that time in history. I am glad to have experienced the knockdown wall texture flat grey webpages with under construction barricades. I am glad to have been a part of geocities. I was so excited to buy something on ebay with a postal money order.
Witnessing the decay of the internet to it's current state... I can logoff now (forever) and not feel like I'm missing out on anything groundbreaking. I don't think there will be any new innovation in my lifetime that won't be #enshitification of once beloved products.
Pour one out for the internet.
I despise how security updates are
bundled with feature updates.
Now we have to choose between risking getting malware from random criminal gangs when refusing to update, or getting embedded malware from the tech company itself that comes with their update.
And honestly at this point, I'm not sure which is worse.
