Proposed mermaid statue in Lockeport, N.S., too tall a tale for some locals
The chair of the town's heritage and tourism committee says the statue would "help put Lockeport on the map." But some residents say any new statue should be based on the town's heritage, not a mythical creature.

I heard there was some graffiti on the old slate-built bus stop on the road to Dinorwig Quarry the other day.
Though it was around freezing, windy and with snow on the tops of Eryri, I nevertheless got some good shots.
This well-executed figure is a fairly common type in the north Wales slate belt. Based on other dated graffiti at the site, it's likely 1950s or 1960s.

A tracing of a graffito in Bethesda, north Wales that may be the only known depiction of St. Ann's church, consecrated in 1813 but buried by the mid-19th century under Penrhyn quarry slate tips. A replacement church, also St. Ann's, was built nearby and survives today.
