Host Europe: GoDaddy äußert sich zum Migrationsstopp bei E-Mail-Postfächern
Nach dem Stopp beim E-Mail-Migrationsprojekt hat sich GoDaddy gegenüber heise online geäußert. Ob es auch eine Kehrtwende einläutet, ist noch unklar.

Buenas, necesito una pequeña #FediAyuda para alojamiento o #Hosting de un #VPS.
Tengo unos pocos dominios, usados principalmente para WordPress, que llevan unos años abandonados.
Quiero retomar la gestión de éstos, incluyendo el "adelgazarlos" de manera más o menos radical. Y darle otros usos, que incliurían WSGI con Python.
El caso es que por diversas razones, querría cambiar de proveedor. Y aunque he visto varias opciones y recomendaciones por ahí como el ejemplo que enlazo, me gustaría si fuera posible, opiniones de gente que hablase por experiencia propia.
El problema principal con el precio son las licencias de cPanel, que me acostumbré a ellas cuando eran gratuitas y ahora están disparadas. Pero como tampoco quiero estar encima 24h, WHM y cPanel me resultan muy sencillas para manejar el servidor. Sin tener que aprender o recordar como se hace cada instalación o configuración. Que ya estoy mayor para eso. 😊
Así que dentro de unos 80Gb en disco y sus aledaños, con al menos 5 licencias de cPanel para 5 a 7 dominios, sería lo que busco.
Y el precio más bajo posible dentro de un mínimo de fiabilidad, claro.

Aber puh... einfach ist anders. Wenn man diverse Features gewohnt ist (bspw. Online-Terminbuchung), dann treffe ich an so vielen Stellen auf Hickups...
Eigentlich wollte ich "einfach" zu @mailbox_org wechseln. Aber so einfach ist es dann leider doch nicht, unter anderem wegen fehlernder Features. Und auf Nextcloud ist dann was schwer hin zu bekommen, was gut auf mailbox.org funktioniert (naja zumindest einigermaßen), bspw. Video Calls.
Fazit: Da ist noch viel Luft nach oben in der europäischen Landschaft der Cloud-Angebote...

They’re an Austrian business using German servers (Hetzner).

Y’all. I want to explore Netlify alternatives. I don’t deploy apps there, only websites. I love being able to push to GIT repos and have them publish to my server, so I want wanna give that up.
Any solid recommendations?
I’m looking for a commercial Mastodon hosting solution for a small organization… I know of @mastohost but are there others out there worth looking at?

#RAMageddon is taking its toll... It comes as no surprise that hetzner@mastodon.hetzner.social has now also had to increase its prices by more than 30%. I'm afraid we'll also have to adjust our prices for Beach, as this is an increase we simply can't offset ourselves.
As great as all these AI agents are, the extremely high expectations placed on corporations and the immense demand for hardware are unfortunately overriding quite some market mechanisms.

Sooooo my recent mishaps with server administration are making me speed up my plans of shifting towards community-owned and -maintained hosting.
Ever since my conversation with @boris almost one year ago, I took his quote “self-hosting is selfish” as a mantra. It’s time to act accordingly.
Together with @Holly and @youjungnoh, we are putting together a group of tech-savy people who want to, respectively:
Learn more about system administration
Get their hands dirty while doing so
Maintain our own shared server
Host their own things (be them websites, projects, or services) together with comrades instead of individual infrastructure.
There are many super cool collectives that are doing this already, and we intend to draw inspiration from their work and their documentation, but we really want to do this together!
Who wants to join? Please, do reach out! I already spun up a small-ish VPS that is now hosting all my static websites. If you’d like to get involved, reach out and I would be happy to give you SSH access 🌻
We would also be very grateful if more experienced sysAds want to help us out by hosting workshops or brief classes.
We intend to meet for the first time in South Holland (but maybe virtually too) sometime during the first two weeks of March.
Next steps:
Find a name for this group/server/mission
Plan a series of (free, open) intro lessons with guests
Start hosting some things
Migrate things I am already hosting with YunoHost in our community server
Migrate to a physical device in a home of ours?
