A couple of signs are held up above the crowd, notably one that reads “IT WAS MURDER” and is the focal point of the image. While most people have their backs to the camera, a white-haired person with their lower face concealed faces the viewer and stares intently off to the side.

Taken during the January 11, 2026 NO KINGS protest in NYC in response to the murder of unarmed observer Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. But the sign’s message could apply to any ICE killings before or since, including the January 24 murder of nurse Alex Pretti.
