Well, most people think I’m a walking contradiction. I’m both serious and funny. Science-minded yet creative. Visual and verbal. Introverted yet extroverted when I connect with someone. Down-to-earth and a dreamer. Kind-hearted yet hard-edged. Really…there is a method to my madness. (I’ll let you l know when I find it). The key thing is that I love to learn and have an insatiable curiosity (which is probably why I have so many hobbies).

I'm still a research scientist at a major Midwestern (US) university in a psychiatry department.
Before this, I worked in several psychology and mathematics departments. There was also a short lived start-up company.
Despite the psych* department affiliations (and a psychology PhD) I am mostly a computational scientist doing #computing, #math, #stats, #datascience, and #informatics work.

Hi, I'm Adrian, and I'm missing an introductory post 👋
I define myself through loving to think about programming and code, cooking and fermenting, having once been massively in debt, having ADHD, generally trying to be diplomatic and gentle (although I know how to swear). But that's probably not all that makes me me. I believe deeply in the free exchange of knowledge where no harm is done to individuals.
On my timeline you'll find posts about critical code and game studies, an occasional loaf of bread, books I'm reading, moss and mushrooms I find in the forests, birds, and curiosities that fascinate me. Mostly in English, sometimes in German, almost never in French.
I'm cool with my gender, but honestly, I don't see much associated with it that I feel like affiliating with. So he/him is fine, but that's about it.
Now that I'm approaching the end of development of a usable #LiquidSimulation system https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@youen/115633813850164194, I'm trying to think about what comes next. And I realize I've never presented any overview of the game I'd like to create. So, this is not really my #introduction (let's say I'm yet another #gamedev), but the introduction of the #game I'd like to make.

Time for a proper #introduction 😊 this is my personal account, so here follows a little about me.
I'm a full-stack software engineer by trade who dabble with #gamedev as a hobby. My most ambitious #indiedev project is a first-person parkour puzzler, with the working title Momentous. Let me (re)introduce myself! My name is Ionica. I am a professor of science communication in Leiden where I study and teach #SciComm.
I moved from social to mathstodon, looking for a smaller local community (and you have the best t-shirt). I did my PhD on number theory and most of the science communication I do is still related to mathematics.

My username is based on a deleted scene from #LordOfTheRings #ReturnOfTheKing which involved #Aragorn and his companions passing through the #CityOfTheDead. At some point the #movie producers thought it would be "cool" to have a massive computer generated avalanche of skulls.
It was not in the books.
It was purely made up for the spectacle of it.
It cost millions of dollars to produce.
It wasn't even used in the movie.
Something about that entire situation resonates with me. 😆
more of a re-introduction really, as this is just me migrating to a new server. I work in tech as an infrastructure/security engineer. I drink and know things. I love B movies, rye whiskey, and biking around town. Very interested in green technology, though I have no specific connection to that industry at present.

Up until about the start of 2023 I thought I was a cis het man, then I had some Thoughts About Gender and was not so sure. Made the first account to experiment with identity a little and learn more, but am still figuring out what the right questions to ask even are, let alone what the answers might be. Also excited to learn more about tech!
