Ich hab es getan, gestern abend!
Ich hatte gestern dann so die Nase voll von nicht mehr funktionierenden Elementen in KDE Neon (vmtl. wegen dem zickigen Ubuntu-Unterbau), dass ich gestern abend mit meinem Sohn CachyOS mit KDEPlasma installiert hab. Und was soll ich sagen - es ist einfach mega gut, alles funktioniert wie es soll und ist schnell - Zack, Zack, so wie es sein soll!
Das Einzige, was ich schräg fand, war, dass man zwar mit einem Knopfdruck all das Gaming-Geraffel installieren kann (was ich nicht brauche), aber man bekommt nicht automatisch den Treiber für ein NTFS-Dateisystem mitgeliefert?
Bei einem so aktuellen Betriebssystem wie CachyOS hätte ich das erwartet. Wir standen nämlich gestern kurz wie der Ochs vorm Berg, weil wir erst nicht wussten, warum die externe Festplatte (eben mit NTFS-System) nicht eingehängt wird.
Also: Wer damit arbeitet, muss NTFS-3g nachinstallieren.
Ansonsten ging das alles sehr problemlos und ohne nennenswerte Zwischenfälle.
Bin sehr glücklich grade und richte momentan gemütlich meinen Desktop ein 🤩😁.

Nachdem ich ja bei KDENeon einen KernelPanicScreen hatte und das Booten vom älteren Kernel ja keine Dauerlösung ist für kommende eventuelle Updates, hab ich mich dazu entschlossen, eine neue mögliche Distro als Daily Driver zu testen. Daher hab ich mit meinem Sohn gestern - erstmal in ner VM zum Testen - CachyOS mit KDEPlasma Desktop installiert. Und - Wooow ist das alles schnell mit CachyOS! Ich bin schon beim Installieren des OS und Downloaden meiner benötigten Programme sowas von begeistert! Beispiel LibreOffice: Während das in KDENeon einfach ne gefühlte Ewigkeit braucht, bis sich das Programm öffnet, geht es bei CachyOS einfach Zack, Zack. Auch Octopi, der Paketmanager der mit dabei ist, ist sehr cool.
Der Einzige Nachteil ist: ich muss neue Befehle fürs Terminal lernen, weil Arch nun mal leider ja nicht Debian/Ubuntu ist. Aber da mein Sohn schon länger Arch nutzt, kann er mich da gut anleiten.
Werde jetzt die nächsten 2 Wochen mal mit dem neuen System bisschen rumspielen, um zu wissen, ob ich das gut finde für den Alltag. Aber bisher finde ich das schon sehr sehr nice! 😊😁

Ongelma ratkesi! En tiedä tarkalleen ottaen miten, mutta nyt se vaan toimii! Asetukset-ikkuna näkyy normaalisti.
Tein kaikenlaista kokeilua. Vaihdoin ikkuna-teemoja sinne tänne useaan otteeseen ja vaihdoin kaikki muut teema-asetukset randomlla.
Sitten puff. Ongelma ratkesi. Aivan kuin jokin "nollaantui".

All this drama surrounding it was for nothing. It's up to you or Distro maintainers to switch to it or not.

KDE Plasma stopped respecting my default map app. I was using the app picker to swap between OSM and Google Maps to compare how they use [Geo URIs][1] when it stopped asking me. So I tryed swapping my default back & forth, but it just used OSM every time. I tryed editing `~/.config/mimeapps.list`, still nothing.

I do enjoy a desktop environment that allows you to _easily_ create an old skool right-click menu on your desktop.
There's some quirks to configuring the ordering, not sure if I'll need to hand edit the menu once I get it most of the way there.
For a mutli-head setup this avoids having to have an Application Launcher on every screen, but it does require access to unobscured desktop in order to work.
And my nerdy part likes the '80s-'90s UNIX desktop vibes it creates. Ha.

I'm going to update the Diamond theme for #KDE4 so that it can work better on KDE6, as it's my favorite theme and has a few issues on #KDE6, mainly in the notifications. Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop.
It's a deliberate choice I made. Not out of love for free software. Not out of mere ideology. Not out of great hatred towards Microsoft.
I simply did it out of the severe clash between the RAM shortage and the abhorrent RAM consumption of Windows 11.
And thus, Linux girth be damned, this is my new home.
Why are KDE Plasma's notifications so awful? First they need a new skin. Second, or actually the real first, closing more than one is painful. If you have two or more open, if you close the bottom one the rest do not move. They hover. If you move you mouse to close the one above as soon as the mouse touches it, it will move down, but only that one. If another is above that, it will only move if you put the mouse over it.
This means to close the second tab, you need to first move your mouse up and touch it. Then after it moves, move down to finally target the 'x' to close it. For the third? Move even further up and back down.. Why don't they drop automatically? Is my system actually working as intended??

You don't want your #KDEPlasma, #GNOME or other desktop session to become sluggish, when starting a CPU intensive build job or something comparable in your terminal?
Send it into the "background.slice", where it doesn't interfere with the desktop's snappiness:
systemd-run --user --slice=background.slice -d -t -- some-heavy-command --and --its --args
Полчаса ломал голову почему kfontview не читает шрифты, а потом узнал что он не работает на wayland.
Но я нашёл такой способ:
Отредактировать файл "/usr/share/applications/org.kde.kfontview.desktop", заменив строчку "Exec" на "Exec=QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb kfontview %U"
У меня сработало. Оставлю это тут. Может кому-то понадобится.
