Did you know you can easily search through your own Mastodon posts?
Just include from:me in the search field.
Instead of this, you can include in:library to show posts you have interacted with or written yourself.
If you want to search through posts of a specific user, include from:username (the full username, including the instance)
If it doesn't work, have a look at this:

In case you still have the impression that the Netherlands is this neat, open-minded, responsible, progressive little European country… That image is aging like milk. 😔

My friend Jay Wren recommended a book yesterday at lunch:
"Thinking, Fast and Slow"
by Daniel Kahneman
https://www.amazon.com/Thinking-Fast-Slow-Daniel-Kahneman
A recommendation from Jay is an insta-buy. I got it as an audio-book (because of my commute).
It is not **at all** what I was expecting! I guess I thought maybe I was expecting something like a "self-help" book or the like. No. This is **not** a book aimed at a broad audience. This is a book aimed at people who understand (at least a bit about) probability and bias and category theory and ... What I'm saying is: it's not fluff. It's genuine knowledge aimed square at me. Jay's recommendation was on the money.
I wouldn't hand this to my MIL (it's past her at this point). I wouldn't hand it to my wife (she's certainly smart enough, but I don't think it falls in her circle of interest). I absolutely **would** recommend it to **you**, or to anyone in my circle of friends.
Go have some fun!
The Pixar Cry Chart
Pixar has spent three decades perfecting a formula: make you laugh, make you care, make you cry. This is a map of the exact minute each film breaks you, painted in each movie's own colors…

I raged against the machine. And every time, I am surprised anew at how creative anger makes me. 😈 I even write faster. 🤭 See my new article "Snails Or Slop Slime" https://steady.page/en/naturematchcuts/posts/28951404-a41f-4215-ab89-bc35dbc41233

Most organizations don’t have a tooling problem.
They have a knowledge quality issue.
Documentation grows. Teams change.
Without structure and ownership, knowledge becomes hard to trust and reuse.
That’s why some teams move from simple wikis to knowledge systems
designed to scale, adapt, and survive change.

An attempt to #introduction in addition to my homepage (in finnish):
A (re)tired academic professional interested in thinking, knowledge and understanding, and the obstacles for such at any level. Epistemic security, for instance, is a serious concern for me, https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20210209-the-greatest-security-threat-of-the-post-truth-age
My intellectual toolkit stems mostly from philosophy of science, epistemology, and teaching critical thinking at university-level. Deep learning and inquiry has been a constant lifeline for me, which a slowly progressing AD is (not so mercifully) severing. My physical toolkit stemming from a few martial arts and long hikes is eroded by other ailments.
I tend to listen carefully, think and respond slowly, forget way too easily, value silence, and have no more time for identity-politics or other ego-defensive pastimes. What I don't understand is why all the pain near and far hasn't stolen my incongruence-based sense of humour yet? 🤔
My boosts mirror my core-interests, but I tend to like people in general.

I thought I'd do an updated #introduction since my first one was a bit sparse on details. Also, #HappyNewYear 😊
I'm an #editor working full-time from home for a small publication. The organisation has gone through a lot of changes over the past six months, which have been stressful, but hopefully things will be more stable this year.
#2024 will also be the year I finish my #PhD. I know I said that last year but I've run out of time so I really have to do it now. It's a #creative PhD -- I'm writing a #steampunk novel set in #WesternAustralia and my #thesis discusses Australian steampunk. Weirdly, despite having spent years on this, I still like the topic and I hope to write some more papers on specific elements when I'm finished. (But first I need to finish).
I have a partner and four #children and live with them plus two #dogs, three #cats and a bunch of #chooks (aka #chickens) in a little regional city on the south coast of Western Australia. I love #cooking, #reading, #writing, #gardening and #hiking and am interested in all things #green ... I've been banging on about the #environment for decades and despite the dire predicament we humans collectively find ourselves in now, I'm heartened by the fact that #climate issues are mainstream news now. I believe in #hope because I think it's a radical act of defiance against the #doom.
I'm fascinated by #science and #space and the #history of how humans have learnt and passed down #knowledge through millennia. I love to learn new things from people whose backgrounds are different from my own. I spent a little time in Germany and did languages in my undergrad degree, so ich spreche #deutsch et parle un peu #français. I'm also learning #Japanese on Duolingo so now I can say 'this cake is tasty', which, I think we can all agree, is a very handy phrase to know.
Ooh! Nearly forgot. Love #tea. Big fan.
