I've finally rid of #meta apps from my #android phone. Now to sort out #google apps & find an alternative #Foss #os for my phone. Unfortunately these phone OS's are either too expensive to buy & use or unavailable for majority of phones out there. I'm already using #Foss app's to replace some of the Google app's.
I'm using @pixelfed instead of #instagram and obviously @Mastodon instead of #facebook. For emails, I've #thunderbird and for #maps I've #osmandapp. I use #fdroid instead of #playstore
I have a new, long-ish post on Alfred Korzybski's use of his map metaphor (nowadays simplified as "the map is not the territory"). And what I now see as its confusions! Enjoy!!

Finally finished implementing the classic 15 puzzle game but using the standard #OpenStreetMap tiles as the sliding pieces! 🗺️🧩
While there are many implementations of this game (some even let you upload your own image), as far as I know, not one directly uses OSM slippy map tiles for the pieces. I figured this would be a nifty side coding project and it was fun to do! 💪

Discovery alert!
A spherical shell-like structure 1 billion light-years in diameter named Ho’oleilana is discovered in the distribution of relatively nearby galaxies. We posit this is the 1st observation of an individual Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO).

Fascynuje mnie to, jak ludzie często podważają przeróżne opinie urzędu, na podstawie tego, że oni sami lepiej coś sprawdzili w Mapach Google.
– Nie, tam tego adresu nie ma. Jest tam ulica Waligóry, no przecież widzę to na mapie.
– Na jakiej mapie?
– No Google.
– Jak to nie ma dostępu do drogi?! Niech pan wpisze nawigację do tego miejsca no. Zobaczy pan. Pokaże.
– Przepraszam Pana, ale nie mogę znaleźć takiej ulicy na mapie, możne Pan zweryfikować to na portalu mapowym gminy?
– No tak, jak zawsze, urzędnicy pracują na nieaktualnych mapach. W Googlu sobie pan to znajdzie.

So much of the East Indies now becomes identifiable, but it looks like a land bridge connects Australia to Papua New Guinea. Note as well the lake which is the source to all the great rivers of Southeast Asia

Was always interested in talking with older people about their memories of the era of the Great Depression. Asking about F.D.R. was a mix of mostly reverend talk of how "that WPA job saved the family", and a minority of people who with irritation would say "War spending saved this country!"
This map from Republican publisher Henry Luce, clearly leaned towards the later with FDR as a loose cannon, keen to handing out cash.

It’s going to be all globe related posts for the next few days. I visited the Globe Museum of the Austrian National Library. They have over 250 globes on display, the oldest dating back to 1536.
