The harsh truth of the matter is that the motive behind the downplaying of COVID is greed and social control.
The goal of capitalism has been to make the COVID pandemic simply disappear from public perception.
Capitalism has manufactured consent for massive infection, based not on data but on pressuring a return to work
The vulnerable/non-vulnerable dichotomy is not only unscientific, but also cruel. It serves to distance us from the oppressed and to biologize eugenics.
The vulnerable/non-vulnerable dichotomy serves to biologize the state's negligence, we are all vulnerable to COVID.
We have no control over how mortality or COVID cases are counted. Capitalism normalizes infections and hides real damage.
Covid normalization only benefits the bourgeoisie. Workers will be hardest affected, while capitalists profit from our deaths and disabilities.
"The statement that SARS-CoV-2 is "airborne AIDS" may be an oversimplification, but it draws attention to emerging evidence showing that the virus induces a distinct form of acquired immunodeficiency (AID). The phrase emphasizes key similarities and is grounded in evidence of shared outcomes, including immune dysfunction through T cell depletion and exhaustion, persistent systemic damage, and neurocognitive decline.
SARS-CoV-2 and HIV-1, though distinct, share parallels in their biochemical traits and mechanisms, long-term impacts and societal responses. Both can establish persistent infections in tissue reservoirs, immune dysfunction, vulnerability to other infections including opportunistic, systemic damage including hallmarks of accelerated biological aging, and premature neurocognitive disorders. HIV integrates into DNA, whereas SARS-CoV-2 and its parts persist in organs like the blood vessels, brain, heart, tonsils, and lungs." “COVID-19 is “Airborne AIDS”: provocative oversimplification, emerging science, or something in between?”
Masks are community care❤️🔥😷 free masks: maskbloc.org
• Remember: covid is not over, 50% of infections are asymptomatic, minimum 10% of infections end up in long COVID, re-infections wreck us, COVID spreads and moves like cigarette smoke, think of the people around you and you as people who are all day smoking, it becomes more visual to understand how COVID moves.
• There is no way to “train” the immune system because it is not a muscle. there is a common misconception that exposure to harmful germs strengthens the immune system. viral diseases like COVID, flu, measles weaken the immune system, leaving the possibility of lasting damage. The reality is that you don't build your immunity with repeated infections, vaccines strengthen the immune system by teaching it to recognize pathogens without all the risks. Focusing on infection prevention is key.
• Rapid antigen tests give many false negatives.
• Solving the pandemic was never in the cards for the capitalist world.
• Instead, the explicit goal of the ruling class has been to make the pandemic simply disappear from public perception. Any reminder of the existence of a highly-transmissible, highly-dangerous, mass-disabling disease could trigger panic, or worse: organized, militant labor action. Averting this crisis required a careful campaign of culture-crafting; the people themselves needed to become convinced that there was no reason to fight. Consent for protracted mass infection needed to be manufactured.
“The cold truth of the matter is that the motive behind COVID minimization is greed and social control. (…) Solving the pandemic was never in the cards for the capitalist world. Instead, the explicit goal of the ruling class has been to make the pandemic simply disappear from public perception.” Let Them Eat Plague! http://clarion.unity-struggle-unity.org/

I need to get a new mask since my old Vogmask had its over-the-nose metal thing break. That company seems to have gone out of business. (Dammit.)
Does anyone have recommendations on masks that will actually seal over the top of your nose, so your breath isn't perpetually fogging up your glasses? And which are easy to carry, e.g. in a pocket or something? 😷 #MaskUp #WearAMask

Another benefit of mask wearing:
News Release 17-Feb-2026
"Mask-wearing during COVID-19 linked to reduced air pollution–triggered heart attack risk in Japan
Nationwide study of 270,000 patients shows pandemic-era behavior changes significantly lowered PM2.5-associated risk of MINOCA, a non-obstructive type of heart attack"
Went to a Valentine’s Day themed lindy hop social today. Had tried to match my face mask with my outfit, and above by the theme.
Some person: it must be so uncomfortable to wear a mask like that.
Me: I prefer this over getting sick.
Person : of course! You do you! Don’t worry, you don’t need to be ashamed of that!
C’mon. Do I look like I’m ashamed of masking?
Forgive the very sweaty bathroom selfie. It was a nice party and the band was excellent!

We #MaskUp
- because the viral load in waste water is alarming
- because being sick is not fun
- because every infection avoided and every transmission interrupted is worth it
We wear the best mask we have to protect those who cannot mask (or mask well) because they are too unwell or because they are too young.

Hello! Here's a small #introduction. 📚
I'm using this account to track my reading. I plan to write down some of my thoughts after I finish a book, mostly for my own memory, but hopefully you'll find some interesting reads here too.
I read almost every genre, from any country, about anything that piques my interest. My favorite reads are often memoirs and speculative fiction. Disability lit holds a special place in my heart, and I'm passionate about books in translation.
I care a lot about the ongoing pandemic, so please #MaskUp and recommend me some good plague books!

How do N95 masks catch particles that are smaller than the holes?
1. Particles are sticky because of static forces
2. Large particles go straight until they hit a mask layer
Tiny particles get knocked around by molecules until they hit a fibre
3. Fibres are given an electric charge so that they attract all particles (the mid-sized particles carrying the SAR2 virus need this)

Just realized:
I was at the ER yesterday, and the people wearing masks were mainly the patients and the lower ranking and/or non-white staff members
Its never been easier to tell at a glance how trustworthy any random human in public is, bc there is no excuse for not wearing one at this point. None of the staff at the ER who treated me poorly wore one, but all of the staff who were kind to me, did. There was very little if any deviation from this pattern. The same attributes that make a medical provider trustworthy also result in them choosing to mask, and vice versa.
The thing about a medical excuse not to wear one is that such a situation doesnt exist. If youre "too sick to wear a mask" youre also infinitely more vulnerable to the infections they would shield you from in the first place. You would be doing things like social distancing or fully avoiding crowded/enclosed spaces bc even minor infections could land you in the hospital. You would be loudly in support of other people masking bc you are the very person those masks protect. There is also no such thing as a medical provider who doesnt need to mask.
If you want other people to know youre a safe person, wear a fkn mask. If you dont, we see you, bc you are wearing your trustworthiness right on your face.

If you become suddenly disabled or chronically ill - your whole world shifts. It’s a harsh adjustment to move from the land of the healthy into a world of constant sickness.
You lose friends & family, healthcare gets harder to access and you face discrimination & ableism.
I’ve written extensively about the experience of accessing medical care when you’re chronically ill. The challenges, risks and psychologizing that so rarely occur when you’re non disabled.
But there’s a lot more to the experience than just accessing healthcare.
In fact - many disabled people go to great lengths to avoid medical settings. Opting instead to hold themselves together with tape and glue.
The problem is - no one teaches you how to do this. There’s no welcome guide to the world of chronic illness.
It's why online communities are vital to our survival - because patients sharing stories help others learn how to manage their conditions. Many learn more from other patients than they will ever learn from HCWs.
Patients ARE the experts in how to cope with chronic illness.
Healthcare becomes a place for diagnosis and band aids - because chronic illnesses are not well understood. They don't get the funding or support they deserve and as a result - doctors are quite limited in what they can do for us.
That doesn't mean there isn't hope. There's a myriad of things you can do for yourself to accommodate your illness, improve quality of life, lessen pain and suffering and find a supportive group of people to get you through difficult times.
Accommodating does NOT mean giving up hope of a cure or improvement - it simply means accepting your disabilities and leaning into ways to improve quality of life.
Little changes can and do make a big difference!
I think about things like learning how to pace, the benefit of a shower chair, learning to put on compression socks BEFORE getting out of bed, having a hospital go bag at my disposal & an advance directive and substitute decision maker chosen and available.
The importance of having a robust at home first aid kit and learning basic medical care to deal with injuries. How to prepare a will.
How to reduce inflammation through diet & lifestyle changes. How to make your home more accessible. How to choose the right person to be a Power of Attorney.
These are just a few examples of things that have made a difference in my own life that I did NOT learn in a healthcare setting. I learned through trial and error as well as from the patients who came before me. The people who are the experts in the conditions I struggle with.
We must support each other - because if we won't - who will?
Building a place for support is one of the main goals for The Disabled Ginger. I've done a series of posts about the hospital experience & how to make it easier ... now it's time to move on to the welcome guides.
My focus will be on mini guides for each condition I deal with - as well as broader guides about how to navigate being chronically ill, accept your disabilities and improve quality of life WITHOUT the help of the medical system.
I hope you will join me on my journey and add your own important contributions. We all arrive at our disabilities from different places - and we are all unique. Every single one of us can bring a different perspective that will likely help someone else.
If there's a topic you want to see covered, something you've learned the hard way you wish someone had taught you, or anything you want to add - let me know.
I want this guide to be accessible to everyone - regardless of where they are in their chronic illness journey. For more you can read my newsletter & send suggestions or comments my way. Happy to have them!
