We've successfully upgraded our Mastodon server to v4.6.0-alpha.3+mementomods-2026-01-24, along with Mastodon Bird UI 4.0.0-alpha.0-4.
This update includes today's latest daily build with 107 new commits from upstream since alpha.2 (2026-01-11).
What's new in Mastodon core - These are the changes Mastodon Team have introduced us in the latest nightly version we are running:

Mastodon Bird UI 4.0.0-alpha.0-4 is still a work in progress in the nightly branch. It's not 100% ready, but it's stable with today's Mastodon alpha.3.

My dedication to our community remains steadfast. I've travelled this country with the hopes of networking and growing the fediverse and our community.
However I've begged for help in exactly this area for as long as Elon has owned Xitter. I've begged our community for folks to step up to create a society.
Yet no one has stepped up. We've all had to figure this technical shit out on our own, in our own silos, and it seems no one wants to share their knowledge.
My sleepless nights of dealing with databases, and endless hours of googling is really starting to wear on me.
24 hours ago I asked for some help and it went to deaf ears. I'm doing everything I can but I'm really starting to burn the candle on both ends.
This is the problem with where we're at with the fediverse. We have people bending over backwards and there's no rescue boat in sight when they need help.
If we truly want to build community, we do it together.
At what point is my cup empty? There's 36,000 people here.

ShalienIn regard of the new announced (too much for my taste) bluesky bridge., I had the displeasure to enforce full suspension of snarfed.org and brid.gy domains from federating.
Not only in my opinion, it's a disloyal move to all the #fedi to make those OPT-OUT by default and whith all the trump and whistle it feel more like an ad campaign than a true "improvement /innovation"
@snarfed.org@snarfed.org I really wish you would stop the project, make it opt-in and then propose it again.

And here it is for my first Mastodon upgrade: we are now running Mastodon 4.5.5.

1: Users:
A: You can limit who can send you DMs/PMs! You can also limit notifications!
B: You can also block a site entirely for yourself.
See attached pics for how.
2: Instance administrators:
If you don't want to block threads.net entirely, consider these options for your userbase's safety:
A: Between "Full federation" and "Suspend" there is LIMIT, which hides content from an instance unless a user either follows the user posting it, or searches for it.
B: There is also "Reject media," which means you never cache a remote site's attachments. This de facto makes all such content sensitive ("unavailable"), requiring an additional click to view.
My Docker-based instance is now running Mastodon v4.5.5.
The upgrade went as smoothly as usual.

We just released Mastodon 4.5.5, 4.4.12, and 4.3.18.
These versions contain various bug fixes, including very important (1 high severity, 3 moderate severity) security fixes.
Mastodon 4.2 is now unsupported, so if you still run it, please update to a supported version as soon as you can.
