Masdar are building a 1GW 24/7 solar plus storage plant in UAE for $6B. The project broke ground in Oct '25 & is scheduled to be completed in '27 (25 mnths). This is the costliest & slowest this type of project will ever be.

In high irradiance countries firm solar is already cheap & fastest to power.

In the sunbelt, solar is simply the best option.

I am a historian of nuclear science & technology at Hiroshima Peace Inst & Grad School of Peace Studies. My book *Nuclear bodies: the global hibakusha* (Yale 2022) surveys harm from #nuclear production, weapon testing, & reactor accidents across the globe, & medical models that obscure harm from fallout particles.

Collecting oral histories in 20+ countries , I examine how communities, families and interior psychology suffer via exposures.

I track nuclear #colonialism (selecting the irradiated) arguing the #ColdWar was a limited nuclear war against these populations.

I also explore our relationship to our HL nuclear waste, asserting it is how our descendants will know us. Our choices now reveal our lack of consideration of the 1000s of generations of living beings for whom this waste is already a part of their world.

On the subject of costs, we’re often told that nuclear is ‘too expensive’. I was pointed to this report by the UK government on the CfD auction for a variety of projects.

Mind that the ‘exorbitant’ Hinkley Point C is set at £92.50 per MWh. All prices are indexed at the 2012 Pound level.

This WIRED article is under paywall but the headline says it all: #Meta is planning on purchasing uranium for Oklo. For those who don't know Oklo, it's a #nuclear fission startup co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and funded, among others, by Peter Thiel. It somehow has links to Próspera in Honduras, the libertarian 'bitcoin city' with its own jurisdiction and loose biotech regulations, financed by Thiel, Balaji Srinivasan and Marc Andreessen.

Meanwhile renewables are surging ahead).

Millions of tons of #radioactive waste, have been stitched into our planet. Much is classified as high-level & will remain dangerous to living beings for more than 100,000 years, we plan to bury the most dangerous of it—the spent nuclear fuel—half a kilometer underground. Deep geological storage sites are already under construction in many countries, including Finland & Sweden, many more are under design. These will present a risk to thousands of generations of human and other beings.

We wrestle with what instructions to leave beside the waste—instructions we imagine will help protect people in the future—oblivious to the fact that the presence of our waste in their world is itself the message.

Long after our cities & monuments have crumbled, long after our languages are unspoken, long after our gods have turned away, our nuclear waste will endure. It is how our descendants will know us.

In regards to our scientific career, we are finishing up an M.Sc. in Energy Technology, with the intent to delve deeper into topics related to #nuclear powerplant design.

Currently, we are pursuing an internship at the #wendelstein #fusion experiment, where we are developing a fast power loss detection system of the ECRH-Heating of the plasma!
