Okay I'm doing a proper #introduction post! I've been here for only a few days so far.

I'm Eric, I'm in the #SFBayArea, punching keys in the #code mines.

I'm a #socialist, #TransitTooter and #BikeTooter and live #CarFree!

I'm also really interested in socially conscious #tech. I wonder how tech and #social issues overlap and inform each other. How do we imagine tech outside of capital? I'm learning #embedded and #OpenHardware using #rust! Tech and #transportation to the people!

This product looks really cool. Too bad it's *not open source*. They claim they will distribute the design files under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, NC stands for noncommercial, so it's not open source. The design is also patented, which (AFAIK) means it's illegal to make this printer without their permission.

I would have much preferred CERN-OHL-S, which explicitly gives you patent rights.

We are urgently seeking cuvettes as donations, or at very low prices, for our #OpenHardware spectrometer in order to continue our R&D and, above all, to analyze water wherever we can.

We are convinced that somewhere in this network of networks of wonderful people, someone knows someone who has a bag of infrared spectro cuvettes under a desk/in a lab.

#Hackster round-up time, and I'm going to break with tradition and post these out of order - so that I can highlight my very favourite, a look at Piotr Grzesik's M8SBC-486.

It's a motherboard for an Intel i486 or compatible. But... scratch-built. Chipset delivered via #FPGA, two ISA slots, it's capable of running DOS, Windows 3.x (though mouse support is a work-in-progress), Doom... Yeah. Wow.

Since there has been a huge burst of new activity out there, and everyone has been doing #introductions I guess I should (re)do a hashtag-laden #introduction of my own.

I am a mid-century modern weirdo from #YYC aka #Calgary #Alberta #Canada that runs https://coales.co Hometown/Mastodon site out of the garage in his back yard (the servers are literally bolted to the ceiling in there...told you I was weird)

Like a lot of people here I am a computer nerd who codes a lot of #Python and tinker with #microcontrollers and #OpenHardware and uses #Linux mostly. Professionally I do #IndustrialAutomation #SCADA stuff.

That said I often (sometimes mostly) post random and sometimes weird stuff. Occasionally political but put it behind content warnings. I am generally #AntiAuthoritarian and I dunno maybe #mutualist if I had to label it.

40 households, subscribing at $30/month over 2 years + power (solar). Train with your own datasets.
Entire set up takes half a rack.
