I've done smaller pieces with folds in the process but these are my first larger pieces. The simplest move is to fold, flatten the paper back out, and allow the texture to impact the plot.

First print set of '26.
I haven't worked with fountain pens in a while as I've been enjoying working with Signo gel pens. In 2025 I learned a lot about tone creation via line spacing so excited to see what is possible with the large variety of fountain pen inks.

Proof sheet #2 for the January print set. Switching to broad nib fountain pens allows me to significantly scale up my usual spacing. The dye-based inks really saturate the paper too. Enjoying these.

Plotted 4 different color schemes of this piece. All done with Bic pens on paper. Pieces are mounted in some simple wood frames and will be available on 12/19 at a show at Discodelic Records in SF to benefit anti-ICE efforts. Flyer in comments.

December '25 print set

Always loved a Bic pen. Turns out they make more colors than black and blue these days and they still get that amazing sheen when you pack the ink in.

I’ve long admired the old ALDUS logo from the early PageMaker days on the Mac. I’ve used that style to create a #PenPlotter rainbow portrait of Alan Turing for pride month.

CMYK on 11”x15” watercolor paper using a vintage HP 7585B pen plotter generated and controlled with Python.

I wonder how #inkscape determines the plot order of lines in the HPGL module? These groups of joists were made as arrays but the plotter is hopping around and drawing them seemingly randomly. I know it’s not doing any path optimization, but I figured it would at least print the objects in order.

#Genuary26: Symmetry. Ok, so the strange attractors may not be exactly symmetrical, but the overall composition more or less is. ;P
When plotting this during the residency, I was been looking at a different machine when it reached the center of the 'eyes' where the circles were incredibly dense, and it destroyed the paper. You can say I left my mark on that machine during my stay.. 😅

#Genuary25: One line that may or may not intersect itself. This mega plot (40" x 26") was made in record time due to the fact that it's a single line, used a MAGNUM Sharpie. It made for a really cool graphic effect, and is a totally different scale than the majority of what you normally see with pen plots, or so I think at least!
Also made during my art residency at @bantamtools. 😎
