Happy to report that about a year after getting a mate to communicate using Signal instead of WhatsApp, we just today made the progression to securing our emails via pgp. 🥳
He was already using Thunderbird as his email client, and although just a few clicks it was a James Bond meets Bill Gates moment when we sent and received encrypted, signed emails to one another. 🤓
[Per the #anarchist theory of practice] I remain convinced this practice of changing how we behave on the internet with intention will continue to change the people engaging in it. Digital prefigurative politics, nibbling away at surveillance capitalism one little data set at a time.

We recently learned that we can sign releases with #SSH keys. We've been using #PGP signatures forever, but are curious if people would rather use SSH keys for signing source releases. So please let us now which ones you'd use.

Mit #Thunderbird geht das inzwischen ganz gut, auch wenn es noch Verbesserungsbedarf in der Nutzerführung gibt.
Aber:
Wenn ich bei mir die PgP-Verschlüsselung eingerichtet habe, können dann meine Mailpartner meine Mails lesen/ entschlüsseln, wenn sie selber diese Verschlüsselung nicht eingerichtet haben?
Ich denke das ist eine berechtigte Frage, die mir da letztens von jemandem gestellt wurde, der erst jetzt beginnt, sich damit zu beschäftigen. Eine Demonstration, wie die Verschlüsselung ganz praktisch funktioniert, hat die Bedenken dann schnell zerstreut 😉

Lebt eigentlich keybase.io noch? Die sind vor einiger Zeit mal an Zoom verkauft worden und seitdem nix mehr.
Mittlerweile kann ich die Mac-App über Homebrew nicht mehr installieren.

I configured WKD for trop.in domain, now you can get my gpg key using simple command:
gpg --locate-keys andrew@trop.in
Some mail clients will do it automagically.

What would my options be to replace pgp/gpg. My use case is as follow :
- I sign 90% of the emails I send
- I encrypt one file that I edit using vim and the gpg plugin

I see some people still using ancient PGP keys. GnuPG offers Linux repositories for updating to the latest versions of GnuPG with new expert features for key generation. Recent versions support both Kyber1024 and Goldilocks448 keys (and more).
Once installed run: :~$ gpg --full-generate-key --expert
