The film “Schindler’s List” has always been extremely important to me, I have seen it many times. One of the final images in the film is a close-up of the Jewish grave stones that were desecrated by the Nazis and used as pavement for the road into the death camp where the film takes place. It was not a set piece, these were images of the real actual concentration camps and the real grave stones that paved the way to the entrance. It is something that really happened.
To desecrate the graves of an ethnic group requires a degree of hatred that can only be instilled in people through deliberate, systematic conditioning (“brain washing”). Ordinary people can’t feel hatred to such an extreme degree without there being an industrialized force behind it. And people not subject to that conditioning can really not fathom that ordinary people can actually feel such an extreme degree of hatred toward their fellow humans.
There are politically powerful organizations who would accuse me of “antisemitism” for even making a comparison between what I am seeing in the news here and the film “Schindler’s List.” But how can I not make this comparison? How can I not? As soon as I hear of a military force so intensely motivated by hatred that they are systematically desecrating graves, that is the first image that pops into my mind: the image from “Schindler’s List” of the desecrated grave stones used to pave the road into the death camp.
How did we let this happen? Did we learn nothing from history at all? And when are we going to turn things around and start to make things better?
