Traditionally, everyone dresses up very well. It’s a very beautiful and fancy looking celebration. Everyone is happy.
Children typically get new clothes and new shoes.
Children are a part of the excitement, and they know they’re about to get gifts, and the Eidiyat (some Eid money).

We’re nearing the end of the month of Ramadan. The night of doubt is next Wednesday, and the festival of the end of Ramadan is Thursday or Friday.
I’ll let you know more about it over the next few days, but I believe Eid el-Fitr (this festival) holds a similar significance to Christmas for Christians. Ask me questions if you’ve got any!

How are you?
This is the second day of #Ramadan in #Gaza.
The fast itself starts every day at the first light of day (and it ends at sunset). It coincides with one of the five daily prayers, Fajr. Before Fajr, we eat a morning meal called Suhoor. My family always wakes up and eats this meal all together. It’s wonderful.
Ramadan is a very communal experience. Everyone supports each other and is in a good mood.

"It's just coffee, it doesn't count..." It totally counts. It really does. If someone tells you they are fasting, for whatever reason, respect their autonomy. You don't need to know why, you don't need to second guess their decision based on your visual determination of their health, you don't need to offer an opinion. Just say "Cool" and move along.
(Interesting, I did not know that fasting during Ramadan was both food and all drink, including water.)
