The #repair of this day is the water cooling circuit of the laser-tube in #CCCAC which broke last weekend.
The fix was made with a 3D printed part (modeled in #FreeCAD) that fits over the broken barb.
Unfortunately the FDM print was not watertight even with 100% infill. So I had to put even more epoxy around the part. Not it does not look as nice, but It seems to work.
No drops after 30min of runtime.

Recently got me a XPrinter XP-58 receipt printer for 7$. It was sold as broken. Turns out it has an unsoldered - not even torn or broken USB port and misaligned ribbon cable (as seen in this photo).
Five minute fix - good as new ✅.

Ce matin, j’a senti que ma selle tournait un peu. Ce n’était pas flagrant donc j’ai attendu d’être arrivé pour regarder. Et là surprise ! C’est le cadre qui a cédé. Complètement arraché avec l’extrémité toujours bien fixé à la tige de selle.
À votre avis, c’est réparable ? Est-ce que je peux sauver le cadre ?

Vintage lenses sometimes have cemented lens groups, using Canada Balsam - from trees. It goes bad, becomes hazy, rainbowy, and needs fixing.
Today we test if mineral oil can suffice as a replacement. Long term? Who knows! Right now? Yes. It somehow does.

Some of my recent #RaspberryPi #electronicsrepair observations:
1) more often than not BCM54213PEB1KMLG Ethernet controller turns out to be bad even if measurements on the surrounding caps seem fine
2) same goes for the CPUs on Raspberry Pi 4 model B - impedance on the inductors around the PMIC may seem ok, but then CPU would simply either turn out to be brain dead, overheat, or, for example, USB ports won't work, though Pi would boot fine.
And replacing VL805 won't help.

Tired of these mini-jack cables always breaking at the plug, I'm trying this - bought a solid-looking angled Neutrik jack & soldered it onto one of many working cables with Broken jacks I have lying around.
Even I can't fuck up such a simple simple operation, so it works - now we'll see for how long... 🤞

Am Dienstag den 3.3. um 19.00Uhr findet das monatliche Reparatur Treffen in den #Mintlabs (Rudolf-Vogt-Str. 18) statt.
Angekündigt haben sich zB (wieder) eine Nähmaschine und einiges mehr. Bin mal gespannt, ob sich unser Experte für Nähmaschinen diesmal traut zu kommen . Im Februar waren 4(!) Nähmaschinen da zur Reparatur (Nötig war nur ein bisschen Streicheln und Pflege - dann liefen sie wieder.
Bei uns muss man sich nicht anmelden - einfach vorbeikommen.

Lot of stuff has found its way between my and this Mars Trek project, but today I found again time and energy to work on it with RIK. As a quick recap, this is a game that has sat in a warehouse for around 20-25 years before being discovered. As usual for these kinds of finds, every mechanical thing in its electro-mechanical logic was seized and its logic units have been taken apart, cleaned, greased and put back together. Most of what's left is adjustment issues or dealing with the screw-ups and n00bness that happens with a non-EM guy tries his best with an EM game.
One weird thing was that it started a game but did not give a ball. This led us on an adventure of how an EM game uses its rather confusingly named score motor during the initialisation sequence. The score motor is actually more of a pulse generator than just a directly scoring related thing. This specific issue happened because one of the many switches in it was not making good enough contact. After filing it again, now with more feeling the game started to kick the ball onto the plunger lane.
An hour of debugging and literal 20 seconds of repair. It figures.
Trying to repair the timing on this old sewing machine but my very unhelpful assistant is sleeping on the job (he occasionally wakes up to grumble at me for having the audacity to work on his sleeping desk)

What value capacitor(?) it is? Or likely to be?
C1 selected as possible fault on basis of possible magic smoke residues.
Board is from an artificial Christmas tree with optic fibre tipps in the foliage.
The green LEDs will now only flash for <0.5 seconds very very infrequently.
I have a multimeter and a soldering iron.
Suggestions for hashtags?

It's annoying when a product is clearly designed for repair, but there's no spare parts...
This is a Clipsal bathroom exhaust fan. The fan assembly comes out with 7 screws total, the internal connections are all screw terminals, and aside from being filthy the whole thing is basically LEGO.
Clipsal don't sell spare parts for it.
