I used to be a graphics software and game reviewer for Dutch magazines.
Here's an article I wrote about 3D software in January 2004, including ZBrush version 1.5.
Back then, ZBrush was still an odd, experimental "2.5D" mix between a paint program and 3D editor. 🙂

I've wanted a #vt100 since I found out about them many years ago, and I finally got one.
This one seems to have been built in 1980. It is in dire need of a good cleaning, but it powers on and provides a nice, clean picture. The keyboard seems fully functional. I don't think it has any of the options like current based comms but that's fine.

little known dvd weirdness: back in the early 2000s dvd mastering companies started experimenting with “seamless branching” which would let dvd’s do things like have multiple cuts of the same movie on one disc, without duplicating scenes. when it hit a scene that was only in the “extended” version, it would skip to that track - play it - and then return to the main branch.
problem was that many older dvd players didnt support this. including my 20 year old sony dvp-ns55p. a bunch of my movies like the Alien Quadrilogy would just lock up at random spots. it took me 2 years to figure out that it was exactly at branch points. it’s time to replace this old beast.
today i found a $10 bluray player whilst out thrifting. glad it runs on netscape navigator plugins.
Happy International Pi Day! Celebrating the infinite possibilities of clean code and extreme portability.
What a better day to remind everyone: Of course it runs NetBSD! 🚩

And also at #Instanssi, we had participation and devices from the local computer museum. This one gave a presentation on the museum computer and some that had brought oneself. Pictures by @Violet #retrocomputing #EusmilusOnTour #retrofurs #Instanssi2026
Wasn’t really expecting to be buying software on a 5.25” floppy in the 21st century but here we are. #appleii #retrocomputing
I sometimes think about most of my retrocomputing interests which are from an era (1980s) that was not experienced by most other vintage computer nerds on here, who connect more with the 90s or later. Nothing wrong with that, just noting the passage of time and that I'm old.
Anyway, I salute you fellow olds who still share about the cool shit those elderly machines could do. And sometimes still do.
Apple IIe + RGB card + cable + RGB TTL adapter + CGA monitor = mostly works (controls are completely stuck, image is wobbly). So this Samsung CK4644 CGA monitor needs a bit of love (and cleaning) but otherwise is doing okay.
By the way, if this monitor looks familiar I'll be posting additional pics of it and of a Tandy CM-5 25-1043 (the later model of the CM-5). The cases seem to me to have been made from the same injection mold.
Behind it is a Gateway VGA monitor connected to the same Apple IIe via an a2Vidga card. Colors are different and behavior is not identical but close.
My 35 years old #Amiga connectts to internet for the first time. Wirelessly. I’m happy she managed before the Internet totally colapses. #retrocomputing
If you had a home computer with BASIC, how many times did this programme print the text '3 TO 2' on your computer?
10 FOR X=3 TO 2
20 PRINT "3 TO 2"
30 NEXT X

This is what flat ribbon cables that connect to an Apple II should look like.
Some work on my Apple II typesetting program: italics are coming along well. https://youtube.com/shorts/FzrhVIne79Q My simple skewing method worked better than I expected. #NantucketLit #AppleII #RetroComputing
My early-model Commodore Datassette works!
I got it for free, since something was rattling around inside and it hadn't been tested, along with a bunch of bootleg Commodore games. Turns out it's just that the eject spring is loose.
A cassette labeled SPACE WAR intrigued me, as I'd played the original PDP-1 Spacewar! at the Computer History Museum. Well, this turned out to be VIC Spacewar, evidently typed in from the book VIC PROGRAMMES Volume 1 by Nick Hampshire.

Unfortunately, the game gets stuck after loading a few screens. Perhaps it's an artifact of my Commodore 64 Ultimate. I'll have to try again once the A/V cable for my Commodore 64 to C1702 monitor arrives.
The second installment in "Update all the orphaned ports!": Frotz for the Amiga.
This great Amiga port from 2007 now uses the newest Z-Code engine from Frotz 2.5.5 (2025).
Should be available soon on aminet.

I sometimes see retro computing posts on here. I have no interest in old Commodore 64s or game consoles, but a while ago I bought a second hand Palm m105 and reminded myself how much I loved mine.
When they were current, I badly wanted a Psion series 3 or 5. I recently managed to get a series 3 and 3a for reasonable prices. They're impressive machines.
I would like to find a real-world use case for at least some of these PDAs. I'm not sure yet what that might be.
