Here's an article I wrote about 3D software in January 2004, including ZBrush version 1.5.

Back then, ZBrush was still an odd, experimental "2.5D" mix between a paint program and 3D editor. 🙂

943.3 seconds to compile clang 3.8 from source in a docker container when maxing out every core of my M1 MacBook Air. Why am I doing this you ask? Well, I have some fun #retrotech things coming... hopefully in time for #MARCHintosh 🤫

I finished stripping the rubberized coating off the #Asus #EeePC and I'm super happy with the results!

One feature of this #Netbook which I knew nothing about is that it has two power buttons. One button boots up to the #Windows OS as expected.

The other button fast boots in about 8 seconds to a bare bones #Linux distro called Express Gate. Apparently it's built into the motherboard chipset which is why it can load so fast.

This is awesome!

I spent MAR10-day celebrating with the @mediaarchaeologylab

I can't get the words together to say how amazing the experience was. Their collection is broad, deep, and varied. Yes, I got my obligatory game of Super Mario Brothers, but I also played with a collection of cell phones, old typewriters, all generations of Apple devices, a PDP/8, and so much else.

Colorado, did you even know this collection was in your own backyard??

First thing on the new bench: this tv test pattern generator. It uses a flying spot scanner - a CRT scans a spot across a transparency, and the varying intensity is picked up by a photomultiplier tube and becomes the video signal 🤯. In. Sane.

Wow found this amazing example of a WM-WX777 Sony Walkman at Gameshop Downstairs in downtown San Jose recently. It runs off a gumstick battery. I have a few of those but not sure where any of them are at the moment hah. Was in its retail box with the manual. Missing the “wireless” headphones though. Usually these just need new belts and are ready to go. He sold it to me for an amazing price.

🧵 In the late 1980s our small game dev team developed 2 Amiga music editors: SIDmon and Digital Mugician, both featuring synth sounds and sampled sounds.

Mugician was published by the British Thalamus game publisher in 1990, and was used for several Amiga games, including our own.

This is our composer Ramon Braumuller's 4-channel Mugician intro.
