I was so fed up with Ilha Madeira still producing electricity with more than 70% fossils, 53% of that diesel (*triplefacepalm*), I couldn't wait to get off of it.
Smol money, smol start :)

Phase I: Oct. 2023 4 panels hybrid 7.5kW

Phase II: Dec. 2023 +4panels, off-grid

Phase III: Nov. 2024 +4panels, 11kW

Hybrid system like this: If the batteries are low the system shuts off from the house for recharging in the sun. No battery charging from the grid.
For the time of the shutoff the city grid is switched on. (Whatafight! -.- The installing company fought tooth-and-nails to prevent me from getting off-grid. It cost me more than two months to finally also get a manual grid power-off-switch - electronically not overridable by the remote of the company.)

Unfortunately the house hasn't got the best position. It is facing North, with the roof to West and East and a hill in its back to South, which will not allow full capacity of the panels especially in winter. More panels needed :)

System description
Phase II
4 more panels and a lot of improvements. Separate manual emergency shutdown switches for the solar panels, batteries, the grid power and the solar power. In case of fire or flooding, for safety of the firemen and/or neighbors.

Phase III
4 more panels, the east side of the roof is now fully covered, + a 3,5kW battery gets me to 11kW. Well, the west side of the roof still has room for improvements ^.^ maybe next year...

Because we have endless Sun here I also have in mind convincing the neighbors to do an independent micro-grid. The neighbor below me in the valley got a new roof this summer. Maybe she is interested to get some panels for herself, those are rather cheap. She does not necessarily need to go off grid on batteries, since those are pricey. In summer, when I'm not here, she can have my solar electricity for free, in the winter we can exchange, whoever gets more sun. The neighbor above me also has a nice empty roof ^.^ I asked her, if she wants to participate, she will think about it. Unfortunately the house to my left is abandoned since forever, no chance to connect :'(

The calculations are very much back of the envelope, first cut, but quite feasible.
A 32billion parameters, frontier level performance compatable open source #llm model. The power requirements is that of 3AC units including cooling. Serves 15-20 concurrent users. 40 households of 4 people each (taking into account actual AI model distributed use metrics and contention ratios)

40 households, subscribing at $30/month over 2 years + power (solar). Train with your own datasets.
Entire set up takes half a rack.
