I just discovered that you can bind 'tab' to 'fzf-completion' in #fish to get fuzzy finding whenever you tab-complete.
I've previously been using zsh with the fzf-tab plugin and was missing this feature since I recently switched to fish.
I kinda stumbled over it and couldn't even find this mentioned anywhere, but I noticed that it was bound to 'shift-tab' by default (presumably from home-manager's "enableFishIntegration" on #nixos).

I prefer this over tmux or zellij – only keep long running processes that matter, not a bunch of random incidental bashes and such. Uses xterm/headless so it works with anything, even vim.

I evaluated zoxide as a cd replacement and decided against it.
zoxide does one trick — frecency-based (yes, that's a real word, it means frequency+recency) fuzzy directory jumping — and it's a genuinely great trick. `z foo bar` instantly finds the best-matching deep path. If that's your main pain point, zoxide is excellent.
But it can't replace cd. What breaks:
* No $CDPATH support (open issue since 2022, no fix coming)
* `cd old new` path substitution becomes a frecency search instead
* Flag pass-through (-q, -P, -L) doesn't work
* CDABLE_VARS (zsh) not supported
If you already use $CDPATH and the directory stack, zoxide's one trick doesn't justify the regressions. The frecency jump solves "navigate to deep paths from scratch" — but $CDPATH already solves that for directories you work in regularly.
I am sad. I really want this power.

Question for 1980s/early-1990s Unix/Linux users: What scripting languages did you encounter other than the various Shells, AWK, Perl, Tcl, maybe early Python?
Looking for general purpose languages that would let you run a stand-alone script. I don't think Rexx saw significant use on Unix. Any other popular languages maybe only in certain geographies (like Ruby/Lua initially)? How about other non-Unix languages that made the jump?

My fav animes include #Gintama (as per my pfp), #NatsumeYuujinchou, and #AttackOnTitan. My fav games include #NierAutomata, #StardewValley, and #EldenRing. My fav genres include anything that evokes strong emotions and grabs my full attention like #horror, #thriller, and #mystery.

In #ksh / #ksh93, you can just type ‘r + Enter’ and it also immediately pulls up the last command and runs it. It’s an alias for ‘hist - s’ or ‘fc -s’
In #bash or #zsh, if ‘!! + Enter’ is only expanding the previous command but not executing, it’s because histverify is on. To turn it off, add this to your ~/.bashrc:
shopt -u histverify
