Hooray! 🎉And now for some good news - Spain has followed in Australia's steps and is banning social media for under-16-year-olds starting from next week, and says it is due to meet with 4 other neighbouring nations considering doing the same to talk cross-border cooperative rules.

I was delighted to discuss this topic yesterday evening on @trtworld's live Newshour programme with Rhiannon Jones. Really hopeful that this change sweeps across the EU and the UK, and then following that, new legislations are considered to protect children from being forced to become social media influencers too.

French lawmakers pass a new law banning social media for children under 15.

The law goes into force at the start of the next school year in September. The law also bans the use of mobile phones in high schools.

Reports are also indicating the British government is considering issuing a similar regulation/law.

There is so much to he said about the hypocrisy of France's proposed #SocialMediaBan for children, but let's start with this quote from President #Macron:

"The emotions of our #children and #teenagers are not for sale or to be manipulated, either by American #platforms or Chinese #algorithms."

As if those were the only two God-given options. He'd rather ban an entire idea than help us build something better.

This is a different ban, it seems the Lords want to Amend the schools bill, I think the #HouseOfCommons want to bring in a different Law for this.

As of today: No social media for Australians under 16.

Also as of today: Every Australian under 16 installs a dodgy gratis #VPN that spies on them and sells their digital lives to #adtech sharks.
