For some reason, I thought someone out there would want to know what I thought of Starfleet Academy #trek #starfleet #starfleetacademy #trekkie #startrek

My critique of the new series, Starfleet Academy. It contains to many characters to post on Mastodon.social, so I took screenshot. It also contains too many characters to paste into this alt description. Basically, it says that it's just Hogwarts-in-space and it's written like it takes place in a 20th century boot camp. The writing, the characters & the plots are awful.

Following the #equality & #fashion tags I regularly see discussion on the injustice of lack of pockets in "typical" women orientated clothing.

While we often look at #history to what people wear and how that codes identify & behavior, we don't look to the future for advice.
As usual #StarTrek has an answer: the future is no pockets for anyone. It's just better. Right?

Anyway, as a man who prefers rucksacks I figured this was an important take to share with ya'll. /goes back to his coffee

Janeway. The Future. Space ship captain of a ship with endless supply of shuttles yet not enough coffee. Comfortable in their lack of pockets.

They don't know how easy they have it, being able to pause whatever they're watching on TV.

My grandma never left her chair, no matter what, while watching old-school original Star Trek on TV.

Her dedication was so intense that, one time, rather than miss a scene about tribbles, she Shatner pants.

I’m a middle-aged geek & #StarTrek fan.
Trek helped define who I am. After discovering TNG in my early teens, Captain Picard became my role model & the crew became my extended family (more about this later)

I’m a tech geek, which explains why #TWiT was my gateway to Mastodon. I’ve been a gamer since the 80s & I especially love #Nintendo

I have strong progressive beliefs which I sometimes share here, but I’m also here for some of the lighter posts & to connect with others

Been established long ago in #StarTrek lore that teleporting works by destroying matter on 1 end and reassembling it at the other end (some episode involving Riker double).

fine for things, raises interresting points for people.
Like - is the you that comes out the other end the same you that went in?
or..did YOU die, and some thing that looks like you take your place?

I am not doing good at time management or indeed any approximation of knowing what day it is, but today was the last day to drop off art for the Somerville Open Studios and I managed to get this done just in time. Despite 1) running out of black thread (howwwww) and 2) goofing up the insignia the first time. Still. She looks good.

I probably did not need to agonize as much as I did over whether it’s the right shade of teal/blue but who am I even if I can’t overthink things.
