What don't most schools teach? Make algebra, geometry, and calculus optional; teach programming to all children instead!
This AI Feedback for #Moodle assignments plugin looks interesting. I have installed it and it appears to do what I would expect.

I have updated the personal page on my blog, "Literacy of the Present". It has links to some of my writing (including first chapters of my novella) and a resume with a list of publications.
If anyone is interested in my writing or my "alchemy" then do get in touch.

Results from our #RCT of Jigsaw #ActiveLearning vs. traditional lectures for teaching #anatomy and #physiology:
Both methods improved student knowledge, but no evidence of *differences* in learning between the two methods (immediately or after three months). However, many more students in the ‘traditional teaching’ group than in the Jigsaw group *preferred* their assigned teaching method over others (78% vs. 38%).
I’m a high school science teacher and I vibe coded an app that gamifies iNaturalist observations. I will be adding a scored bioblitz to my class assignments. It even has bingo and trophies to earn for clout.
In a world of AI there needs to be a revolution in how teachers design assignments. @Casey @kevin #vibecoding #teaching

📬 Issue No. 5 of Notes on Data and Learning highlights the skill of omission in education.
In teaching data, statistics, or modeling, deciding what to exclude is as crucial as what to include, preventing overwhelm while keeping depth.
Drawing from my Health Metrics and Infectious Diseases experience, I discuss how teaching and writing prioritize over completeness.

'Massachusetts can do a better job on sexual and relationship education'
Although the article applies to Massachusetts, this message applies to *all* states:
⭐ We must do a better job on teaching young people about healthy relationships and consent.
❤️ And a quick reminder: April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month #SAAM.

(Editing my #Introduction a bit!)
I have my professional hands in the fields of #History, #DigitalHumanities, and #Libraries ; work in all of the above at Eastern Illinois University. Tech interests include text analysis and related wrangling. HIST interests include #USReligiousHistory. Current primary project focuses on constructions of #Religion in rural Midwest history.
Music/art/humanities enthusiast.
Although I do post about #Teaching, #Tech, and other professional interests, I also post quite a bit about music and what I'm reading, watching, thinking about, listening to... fair warning!
I am currently pinning individual posts related to books I am "currently reading" to the top of my profile, and then responding to that root post with running commentary in an effort to read more openly and intentionally. So if you see a lot of posts from me that aren't interesting to you, try muting the conversation. :)

Just updated my 'Species Distribution Modeling in GRASS' reader 📘. Right in time for our upcoming module for my 'Earth, data-analysis and visualization students at #HASgreenacademy 😅
Mostly small changes about the organization of results. The least exciting part of modeling, but it can absolutely mess up your workflow if not done right. Hopefully this lands before students learn that the hard way. 🤔

Ok fedi, help me out:
If you're teaching any kind of CS course at a high school level, do you have students keep a paper notebook? What kinds of things do they do by hand vs on the machine? Do you have specific assignments aside from larger projects/programming?
I'm doing some work today on revamping my web development course from last year and could use ideas.
I like the optimism of this box of melty chocolate balls, but I strongly suspect there won't be any left by the end of this late-night essay marking session. #teaching #TeacherLife
Bio was too big, and I didn't yet make an #Introduction:
Hi, I'm Leonard/Janis (like Cohen/Joplin respectively), I use they/them pronouns, he/him (Leo) and she/her (Janis).
I'm a #genderqueer #hacker from #Berlin. I'm a professional procrastinator, don't expect me to stick to one project :'-)
Outside of computing I love #running, #handball and #rollerblades, adore cats, have a passion for #teaching and spend too much time following politics. I listen to #Blues but my musical taste has since widened to also embrace R'n'B, Rock, Funk, and a lot of modern stuff. I read classic #fiction and my favorite authors are Terry #Pratchett, Douglas Adams, J.R.R. #Tolkien, Robert Harris, and Sjöwall & Wahlöö (rather male dominated, send recommendations!).
I'm politically left #AssignedCatAtBirth but not settled on the specific question of government.
I'm a #privacy and #security fetishist (these aren't the same, sometimes even oblique). Some see a gray space here, I consider the right to data self-determination a fundamental right. Also, free #housing, #publicTransport and a livable environment are fundamental. #Learning and #teaching are crucial for individuals and society. Tech won't solve our core problems, merely highlight them and perhaps provide tools for change we can use.
New #introduction.
I’m Nikki.
I’m an #academic living in #UpstateNY. Love #teaching, need to do more #research.
I’m #transgender, and #transitioning.
I’m a #geek. I love #reading, need to get to #writing again (both academic and non), love #scifi and #anime and pretty much anything to do with #learning. (For some reason, on a #philosophy kick right now.)
For exercise, I love #cycling, in particular distance cycling.
Everything else right now is nebulous.
