I can't disagree with these people.

I have mixed feelings on this. I have my affection for the constitutional principle, but also concur with Leveson's report. Plus I have a lot of faith in our judiciary so doubt it'd lead to short term disaster.

Were the Tories (who caused all this in the first place) or Reform doing this though, I'd oppose it, particularly since it'll poison and politicise the judiciary in the long term.

I think on balance then I oppose this.

The Lords' amendment was an incredibly blunt instrument that nobody sane was backing. It would've defined most of the web as 'social media' and thereby banned it for under 16s, with loads of negative knock-on effects.

The government whipped against this amendment, but there were lots of abstentions and one rebel — John McDonnell, continuing his long career of voting contrary to Labour.
