Sweet childhood nostalgia. Such a great Amiga game, with such a great soundtrack. I still regularly listen to those tunes.

The US publisher, Micro-Illusions, later changed their name to Hollyware, and became the publisher of our 1992 Amiga game Hoi. Sadly, they didn't pay us though.

I'm Eric Korpela, an astrophysicist by training. My expertise is in interstellar matter (#ISM), UV instrumentation, radio instrumentation, and #SETI. I used to direct a small volunteer computing project called SETI@home (#setiathome). I'm semi-retired, and theoretically working 17 hours a week. In practice that turns into almost as many hours as I was working before I retired.

My posts here will often be unrelated to my work. I find it hard to be chatty about things that have exhausted me during the day. My short term life goal is to learn all that is knowable.

I picked up my first typewriter, a Brother ML-300 Electronic Typewriter with Display, right when it went public at University Surplus this morning. It had been mislabeled as a fax machine and I got a great deal on it, just $20.

It's a motherboard for an Intel i486 or compatible. But... scratch-built. Chipset delivered via #FPGA, two ISA slots, it's capable of running DOS, Windows 3.x (though mouse support is a work-in-progress), Doom... Yeah. Wow.

Here's level 5 of our 1992 Amiga game Hoi. Having a demo scene background, we wanted to create a crazy level with psychedelic demo-like effects.

The hiccups in the video show that the level is also a taxing task for Amiga emulators and video compression algorithms. 😁
